Got a surprise letter from my local borough council saying the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of my house is too poor to allow me to rent it out.

Given I don’t want to rent it out and they are completely wrong, annoyed me somewhat.

They claimed it was based on February 2025 data from the government, which was clearly wrong as I looked on gov.uk to find my house energy efficiency was improved in 2021 and was ok for renting.

i wrote to the council only to be told that oops the government was wrong.

I asked a few questions….,

– why was the data wrong

– how many people are affected

– why did you send the letter

etc.

No surprise, no response.
