Lego discovery centre

Out to the Lego discovery centre in Birmingham.

Had a great time with my son and grandchildren.

Hiding in a model of spaghetti junction

Given the relatively small size there was lots to do with the kids.

Even watched a 3D film

Great time had by all. Only negative, a bit pricey, but what do you expect!!!!!

Coventry v Derby.

Standard

23 October 2021

My first away game of the season. Normally by now I have been to a few. first time at coventry’s ground. Pretty good.

Hoping to go by train, but sadly decided to drive. The ground is several miles from the main Coventry station and it would be over 3hrs door to door.

A typical derby day out, good and bad bits.

Firstly the bad bits. Beer in the local pub, dire. Had a pint of John Smiths!!! Then the first half. I think they forgot to turn up. Really bad.

Second half total transformation, they were really good, and unlucky not to win. So we settled for a draw 1:1 yet again. Highest number of draws in the league.

End of the Peer Challenge

20 October 2021

It was a great experience being on a peer challenge. The quality of the people undertaking the review was excellent. We were warmly welcomed into the council. everyone was open and friendly.

The processes worked well, and the recommendations well? received.

Only the weather on the last day let us down. a great if extremely tiring 3 days.

Modern council

Welwyn is a good council and part of the trip I saw their award winning carpark.

A well designed multi-storey carpark replacing several older carparks.

Was also impressed with the large number of charging points.

Fallen branches

As I was out on my early morning walk in Welwyn (It was dark).

Two different people told me to be careful as a tree/large branch was down over the path.

Got to the branch and just moved it aside…. I don’t get it. Why didn’t the people just move it. A different approach to what would happen around home.

Welwyn Garden City

Standard

17 October 2021

Off to Welwyn Garden City to do a review of the local council. Never been before, a bit too close to London for my liking. Also wondered why it’s called a city when it isn’t.

I have to say despite my biases I thought it was a lovely town. Clean, tidy well laid out with wide green verges. A conservation area so all the houses and shops in keeping.

Affluent, John Lewis, Waitrose, M&S etc. Plenty of book shops etc.

My only criticism would be that the people aren’t quite as friendly as those further north…. At home I would be out walking and everyone says ‘good morning’ this didn’t happen as much in Welwyn.
