Train impact

Standard

Derby railway station has been closed for a little while. To be fair to them they have run an excellent bus replacement service.

However one of the local pubs that I frequent has apparently lost 25% of it’s taking and they are unlikely to get much back…..doesn’t feel right.

Walking around Buxton

Standard

29 August 2018

Off to Buxton in the Motorhome for a couple of days.

Lovely site (caravan & motorhome club site in Buxton) nestled in an old quarry. Been refurbished, only reopened a few weeks ago.

Went for a walk over to Errwood reservoir, 8 miles didn’t meet anyone until I was near the campsite. Great…

Health & Safety got me…

Waitrose have changed their free coffee system, you now have to bring your own cup.

While I agree with the policy, ie no non recyclable paper/plastic cups it’s a pain to carry your own cup. So I bought a couple of silicone squashy cups which easily fit in my pocket.

Sadly was told I couldn’t walk around the store with a cup without a lid on health & safety grounds….. strange I have had mugs of tea for nearly half a century and it hasn’t harmed me!!

It’s gin time again

Standard

27 August 2018

It’s that time again to make Sloe Gin. Even though we still have some of last years we decided to make some more.

We know an area near Cubley that has excellent sloe berries. So today I walked there and back to collect a carrier bag of them, a nice 14 mile walk.

Done my bit, now Sally’s turn.

First Aid

Standard

22 August 2018

Attended a one day first aid course.

Have to say things have moved on/improved since the last time I took a first aid course. I now know how to use a defibrillator, CPR, and a lot more. It’s all part of my involvement with Ashbourne Community Transport.
