Poorly landy – again

Standard

14 October 2021

Oops, landy poorly again. This time the front half shaft seized. So wouldn’t move.

Called out RAC. 4.5hrs later they rang to say unlikely to fix it so will send a tow truck out. Why make me wait 4.5hrs to achieve nothing.

Tow truck arrived, too big couldn’t get up the drive. So I had to get a tractor to tow it out onto the road.

What I should have done (hindsight). Put it in diff lock and i could have driven it (slowly) to the local garage ?

I like statistics

Have we now got more or less GP’s now compared to 2019?

We have 132 fewer permanently qualified GP’s now.

However we have 1218 more ‘full time equivalent’ GP’s working now. But this reduces to an extra 101 if you exclude trainee GP’s.

So it doesn’t matter what the politicians say, they are bound to be right or wrong. It’s just which measure you use…..

Matlock cable car

Standard

13 October 2021

At tractor club tonight we had a talk about the construction on the Matlock Bath cable car back in 1984.

Interesting feat of engineering. The scary bit was seeing pictures of people way up the support towers bolting things together. No safety equipment.

Wouldn’t be allowed today.

Chocolate night

Standard

12 October 2021

It’s chocolate night at Boys Brigade.

First activity is making chocolaty things

Different ingredients
Mixing it all in a bowl with melted chocolate

The kids loved it.

My favourite was the eating a bar of chocolate with a knife and fork, wearing gloves, hat, scarves and a coat. Harder than you think.

Electric car

8 October 2021

After thinking about one for several months. This week booked a test drive and ordered one on Sally’s birthday.

Gone for the ID3, a lovely little Golf sized car. Then the bad news, I couldn’t get one ‘from stock’ in. The country. I tried as far afield as Brighton to South Shields.

Thought about a nearly new one but with the various incentives a new one saves me over £4500, so why pay more for a secondhand car?

Another bit of bad news is I will have to wait until next year (probably March) to pick it up ??

James Bond

Standard

7 October 2021

Went to the cinema to watch the latest James Bond.

Not sure this in the cinema really sold the film…

Been so long since we have been to the cinema. Great film really glad we went (part of Sally’s birthday celebration).

Fallen tree

Quite impressive. I large tree slipped down the bank and blocked the local disused railway track. luckily no one nearby.

Not many cyclists will get through. Too big for an individual to move. I think it’s a county council responsibility as they own the land.
