First at last

I am an early bird at work, arriving normally at 07:00, technically when the building opens.

Earlier this week I arrived at 6:50, 10 mins before it’s supposed to be open and I find that 4 cars are in before me….

Today I arrived at 06:45, and was the first car in the carpark…….sad. Even more sad I popped into the supermarket before getting in at this early time.

Preparation

The walk is now getting serious.  Graeme asked us all for our emergency contact form, next of kin, medication etc, just in case we need to go to hospital.

Started getting sponsors, so again no backing out.

Would be nice if I wasn’t working and could concentrate on the walking.

Looks like its serious

Looks like the 3 Peaks is on.

Graham has kindly agreed to be driver and cook. In addition he is a first responder, so the first aid bits are coverd. He is like me and likes planning & contingency. So he has order two way radios and also a gps tracker so he knows where we are.

Started getting sponsorship, and purchased a few energy bars. Not sure whether I need lots of rest, or lots of walking to build my stamina up.

Doctor given me double strength inhaler, so hopefully that will help.

Planning meeting last night went well. Now only worried about exhaustion, and falling off the mountain when it’s dark and I am tired.

Nice Father’s Day

Had a lovely Father’s Day, Andrew came to see me, we had a great time, nice lunch at the Old Poet’s. I did have to sample some of their beers. I like the 1/3 pint measures, try lots more beers and remain sober….

G & S with a different G

Standard

Went to watch the local G & S society perform Haddon Hall in the Medway Centre, Bakewell.

Not seen this one before, excellent production.

Two unusual points.

1. This is a G & S with Sullivan & Grundy, Gilbert not contributed. Although Melanie Gilbert was last nights musical director….

2. It was performed at Bakewell, about 2 miles from the actual Haddon Hall.

I thought I was well prepared for last night’s walk up Snowdon on my own. Took all the normal safety precautions, first aid kit, whistle, gps, map compass etc etc. However when I got there i found I hadn’t brought my walking socks….

Early evening in the middle of nowhere isn’t the best place to find socks. Luckily the cafe/shop in the car park had one pair left, the downside was that it was a pair of ladies ones, about 5 sizes too small for me, but had no choice

Bit of training

Standard

12 June 2014

A bit of training for the 3 Peaks. Yesterday I did a 8.5hr day in the office (short), then a drive over to Snowdonia, and then walked up/down Snowdon in the evening before driving home.

Unusually the car park at  Pen Y Pass was empty….

Made reasonable time getting to the top 1:45.

Hello Mr trig point.

View from the top. Nobody there only me……

Sitting next to the trig point admiring the view.

Disappointingly it took me 1:35 going down, only 10 mins quicker than going up, and not fast enough for the 3 Peaks…..

Looks like the 3 Peaks is on

Numbers are down to 4 of us doing the 3 peaks, and I am the oldest by a long way.

It is looking more likely, we found a driver willing to take us around.

I now just need to get fit, and get my breathing sorted, hope the doctor can sort it.

Still a stupid strategy, driving up around tea time from Ashbourne, around 8hrs driving, then the 24 hrs start. Would much prefer a sleep up there and start fresh in the morning, instead we are likely to be up over 40 hrs….
