Decided to watch the Derby v Forest game, I think Maria prefers food….

Proof that she does sleep.

Ethics in IT

Standard

13 September 2014

Read a number of articles on ‘ethics in IT’, lot of food for thought.

Smart cars that drive themselves claim they could save 16,000 lives in the UK. However this is a net figure, so it will probably save say 20,000, but result in potentially killing say 4,000 different people. The ethical issue is around killing 4,000 to save 20,000.

Google glasses, apparently some places are asking people to remove them, because they don’t want to be ‘spied on’, the othe side of the argument is that it’s a free country and you should be able to wear them.

Just think of ‘the internet of things’ soon we will know lots about what you are doing. Is it secure, who can see what and for what purpose……

An interesting dilemma

Standard

11 September 2014

An interesting dilemma. We have a number of staff who look at the local newspapers website from work phones. Perfectly reasonable thing to do.

However such sites have various adverts eg dating which therefore classifies the sites as adult.

So do I block perfectly reasonable requests, or do I allow access to adult sies…. Very catch 22.

Sloe Sloe…..

Standard

7 September 2014

Thanks to one of our neighbours who have a large paddock with several blackthorn bushes full of sloe berries, we picked a lot of berries today.

No choice but to make Sloe Gin…..

Surprised how much sugar you put in (half a pound).

However it soon starts to look how it supposed to do. Doesn’t take long before the juices start to come out. Hopefully they will be ready for Christmas….

5,000,000 in 401 days

Standard

7 September 2014

Started using a Jawbone Up back in August 2013. Today it has told me I have walked 5,000,000 steps in 401 days. Not bad, just a bit ironic that the doctor has told me to cut down my walking – Grrrrr

Nearly a personal viewing

Standard

6 September 2014

Decided to go to the cinema to see ‘What if’ last night.

Bit concerned when we were the only people in the cinema when the trailers started. Thought we were going to get a personal viewing, sadly 4 people turned up.

We enjoyed the film, just a bit strange so few going on a Saturday evening…

Tasteless antiques…

Had a trip to Leek today to look around the antique shops.

Came across a number of very tasteless antiques. Why would anyone want to buy, alligator head, rhino foot, skulls, Ostrich foot etc…..

Unintended consequences

Standard

6 September 2014

The doctors have told me to cut down on the walking (not happy), for a while at least, until my injuries recover. The downside is that I haven’t cut down my eating, 5lb increase in a week, soon be Mr Blobby….

Will have to find some other form of exercise!!!
